Religious views on masturbation On many occasions church leaders have taught that members should not masturbate as part of obedience to the law of chastity. Kimball, who later served as church president, warned of the “possible damages” and “dangers” of this “common indescretion” on various occasions calling it a “reprehensible sin” that grows “with every exercise”. He gave vigorous exercise as a method to help control thoughts and break the habit of masturbation since it is a “transgression” that is “not pleasing to the Lord”. The manual includes statements that “prophets have condemned [masturbation] as a sin” and “perversion of the body’s passions” that causes one to “become carnal”. Callister who stated in a speech at BYU-Idaho that God “condemns self-abuse” a euphemism for masturbation. He further stated that even when dating for a time a kiss should be a “clean, decent, sexless one like the kiss between a mother and son”. Necking passionate kissing with intimate touching has been called an “insidious practice” while petting was called “sinful” and “an abomination before God”. The oral sex ban, however, was neither removed, modified, or clarified as the only additional directive to leaders was that “if the member has enough anxiety about the propriety of the conduct to ask about it, the best course would be to discontinue it”. Subsequent discussion of marital sex warned against behaviors that the church considered unnatural, impure, and unholy including Spencer Condie’s warning that when couples “participate in unholy practices” during their physical intimacy it can become a “disruptive force” in their marriage. Religious views on pornography LDS church leaders have repeatedly condemned the use of sexually arousing literature and visual material for decades.

Kimball and Mark E. Petersen focus their assignment on curing gay members. Speaking to church educators and LDS psychiatrists in , Kimball said, citing a Medical World News article, that “[w]e know such a disease is curable,” and that ex-gay Mormons had emerged from the church’s counseling programs cured, although the cure was “like the cure for alcoholism subject to continued vigilance. Gender minorities and the LDS church On several occasions spanning the 70’s to the early ‘s while discussing homosexuality, church leaders have alluded to their belief that the homosexual feeling may stem from a confusion over one’s gender identity or gender roles.
Michael Quinn has suggested that early church leaders had a more tolerant view of homosexuality given that during the 19th century, the Church like American society as a whole was relatively tolerant of same-sex intimate relationships.

Those who have received this award in past years have stood here to express their gratitude to BYU, but I feel especially blessed in receiving this award as a non-Mormon. This university has insisted on valuing me regardless of my religious minority status.
I think this is a sort of minor miracle.

June 1, Author: I have a particular interest in this as I have a daughter in her late 30s that was widowed last year due to cancer, and she lives in Utah County. The article is partly a book review of Date-onomics, a book that breaks down dating trends by demographics. Not only is it harder to find a partner when the numbers are uneven; it radically changes behaviors between the sexes in ways that disadvantage the majority sex! Highlights of the article: In Utah, there are 3 single women for 2 men active LDS.
Dating couples or husbands and wives who fear the loss of a partner’s love weaken their relationship by holding on too tightly. A husband who thinks to himself, “I won’t let her out of my sight,” is actually expressing a fear that might push her away.
He instituted a very strict rule that no blacks were to be ordained or given temple ordinances. Elijah Abel outlived Brigham Young and the validity of his ordination was repeatedly discussed by the brethren see All Abraham’s Children , p. The rationalization for restricting blacks developed over a period of years. Scholar Armand Mauss observed: Also, during the generation after Brigham Young, three other important internal developments occurred that seemed to point to a divinely condoned racial restriction.
The first development was the formal canonization of the Pearl of Great Price,.

Times have changed, and that is a good thing—especially the fading-away of cruel taboos that once stigmatized women who engaged in premarital sex or bore children out of wedlock. Thing is, times change for a reason. The values question assumes that sexual mores loosen naturally from conservative to liberal. In reality, these values have ebbed and flowed throughout history, often in conjunction with prevailing sex ratios.
But the problem is a demographic one. Multiple studies show that college-educated Americans are increasingly reluctant to marry those lacking a college degree. This bias is having a devastating impact on the dating market for college-educated women. According to population estimates from the U. Among college grads age 30 to 39, there are 7.

Go ahead, make my day. I was sitting with a friend not too long ago, discussing her current situation with a boy that she liked. She told me about all of these interactions they had had and what was going through her mind as she chose how to react and judge the situation. As such, I asked dozens of single LDS men from various parts of the country what they wish single LDS women understood and these are five of the most compelling and frequently repeated answers: Girls can ask boys on dates This was far and away the most common answer I heard.
Nearly every boy that I asked mentioned this in some form. I think a lot of women have this sense that they will mystically attract the romantic intentions of a boy, without actually striking up any kind of relationship or comfort level with anyone. A date is a date, not a proposal. This is an important thing for both genders to remember in the whole drama of asking someone on a date. You are not asking for their hand in marriage.
